Margaret Couch-Cogswell
Margaret Couch-Cogswell, a local WNC artist, has a long history of privately exploring her imagination through daily journal entries and drawings. Her private process
became public when she decided to share her journal sketches, hanging them on display in her studio. Her quirky and colorful pieces were soon a hit with visitors,
and that was the beginning.
Her process engages a pure desire to just create. "I draw, collage or paint for the joy it brings me and the journey it takes me on. I commit to turn off the
filters of judgement and open the door."
Upon first glimpse of her whimsical work, a playful and carefree mood comes forth, yet with more careful examination, one can identify a masterful and deliberate hand at play.
Margaret refers to her work as "drawings" which may mislead some. Her "drawings" may start as simple sketches, yet the finished product is a combination of delicate collage work,
precise brush strokes and refined attention to scale, texture and color.
