Theresa Gloster Theresa Gloster was born in Filbert, West Virginia in No. 9 Holler, probably a reference to the coal miner's ward, and she was raised by her grandparents in the company of their 12 children. Her paintings reflect her upbringing in the way they teem with a multitude of folks of several generations. The family moved to North Carolina when Theresa was 6 years old and she has been in the foothills ever since. Theresa paints scenes from her life and she paints the stories she hears while working as a hairdresser. Sometimes picturesque, sometimes playful, sometimes poignant, her genre paintings reflect real life with all of its inherent joys and hardships. At 52 years old, Theresa is a relative newcomer to painting, having started 5 years ago after praying to God for direction. In answer to her prayers, she received a vision of her first painting. She has been working non-stop ever since, painting on anything that presents itself- boards, placemats, church fans, the walls of her house and even her van. She has shown her work in Georgia, New York and Western North Carolina. North Carolina public television featured Theresa in an episode of their arts program in the spring of 2002. |
