Joel Huntley

Joel Huntley

For over 40 years, pottery has captured Joel Huntley’s attention & heart. He was quickly drawn to the craft while studying art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and later continued his exploration of traditional pottery in England at the storied Leach Studio Pottery.

Back in the States, early American pottery became his passion. Joel has read & studied vast amounts of information pertaining to Face Jugs, and began producing them in the late 1980’s. He estimates he has made hundreds…

Joel states “Their hold on my attention surprises even me. The face jugs seem to function both as a window into my emotions as well as expressions of our shared human condition. They will always be honest and forthright, never ever cute. I don’t know or plan what countenance or attitude will emerge from the soft clay.”

Joel and his wife Deb established their family pottery in Wisconsin in 1984, where they continue to create together and pass down their love of pottery to the next generation.
