John Sperry

Almost 25 years ago, John Sperry quit his corporate job because he knew he just had to paint.

Using oil pastels and acrylics, John brings his bright and whimsical characters to life on wooden panels. Birds, flowers, turtles, dogs, alligators, and the ever-enigmatic human face (or talking heads as he likes to call them) are his typical subjects. His critters are lively and typically on the move or dancing, and his talking heads are so named because every face is unique and has something different to say.

As John likes to say: without humor, life would be oh so dull. His healthy sense of humor is the main character in much of his work, and his quirky scenes & funky critters never fail to bring out a smile.

Residing in rural northeast Georgia, John and his wife Danette enjoy a simpler way of life, both creating a better and more beautiful world with their art. They call their little oasis Sperryville, where it’s just a short walk to their studio and the only traffic is the birds in the garden.
